Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture carries out scientific research in creative cooperation with leading scientific institutions and state academies of sciences, design companies and enterprises of the Ural region. The scientific laboratory “Safety Technologies of Strategic Infrastructures and Territories - TBSIT” was created at the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture in collaboration with the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The project manager of this laboratory is Svyatoslav Timashev, of technical sciences, professor, Honored Worker of science of the Russian Federation, Honored Worker of education of the Russian Federation, co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize 2007.
The main objective of the project is to create real conditions and a practical mechanism for innovative scientific, educational, and organizational breakthroughs in perhaps the most important problem of the 21st century - ensuring safety and sustainable development of infrastructures and territories, taking into account the human factor.
The subject of the scientific laboratory is essentially innovative. Scientists combine their efforts to solve problems of design, fracture mechanics, diagnostics, monitoring, maintenance, survivability, and optimal management in the context of creating and operating safe, smart and resilient infrastructure systems.
The analysis of global trends in the development of the theory of critical infrastructures and the practice of using its results allowed formulation of the following priority research areas that, in general, cover all the currently visible field of tasks:
The research plan for the next two years includes fundamental, oriented and applied comprehensive research of critical infrastructures of strategic importance to the Ural region and the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
The results of the research are planned to be used, first of all, in Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region, in the Urals and in Russia, as well as in the countries of the Eurasian region and the world as a whole.
Since 2015, in collaboration with the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, two annual international conferences and an international school for young scientists have been held with leading foreign specialists from the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania and other countries:
